Dr. Heather Darby (she / her) treats anxiety, depression, trauma, and ADHD. She also specializes in the intricate relationship between food, body image, and disordered eating, and assists clients in navigating identity formation related to gender and sexuality, as well as life transitions such as the shift into young adulthood, and the adjustments of early parenthood. With a background in both Clinical and School Psychology, Dr. Darby offers individual therapy to young adolescents (age 12 and up) through adults.
Therapy with Dr. Darby
Dr. Darby’s therapeutic approach is person-centered and trauma-informed, grounded in Health At Every Size (HAES) and anti-racist principles. She fosters a warm, collaborative environment where clients can explore underlying factors contributing to their distress, develop coping strategies, and build resilience. Dr. Darby prioritizes creating a safe, affirming space for clients to freely explore their thoughts and emotions, facilitating meaningful change in their lives. Evidence-based treatment methods commonly drawn on by Dr. Darby in her practice include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Training and Experience
Dr. Darby earned her doctoral degree in Clinical and School Psychology from Roberts Wesleyan University. While there, her research focused on gender diversity in eating disorder treatment, complemented by diverse training experiences, including work in eating disorder treatment programs, community mental health clinics, residential children’s homes, and public and residential schools. She recently completed an APA-accredited internship with RIT’s Priority Behavioral Health Internship Consortium Program, providing therapy and assessment to adults in community outpatient settings and within a local shelter for houseless individuals.
Fees and Appointments
Dr. Darby conducts therapy via tele-health as well as in-office. Please note that Dr. Darby currently operates on a self-pay basis and does not accept insurance.
